The Evolution of the Cubs JerseyBring the Past into the Present!A true Cubs fan can wear a jersey day in and day out. So, it is important for us to have a huge selection at our disposal, but the styles these days are limited. That is why I recommend reviving some of the retired jersey styles. There have been many changes over the years, and quite frankly, I would love to see some of the old logos and styles brought back. Today you can find other apparel with the old-school logos, but you just can't find the older style jerseys. One of my favorites includes the 1908 Cubs jersey. This jersey marked the first appearance of the bear. The logo displayed the big "C" and inside was the profile of the standing bearing with a bat tucked at his side. I have seen this old Cubs logo from time to time, but again, not on any jersey. Any life-long Cubs fan would be proud to wear the first bear logo on authentic Cubs jerseys. The first-ever red "C" appeared on the team's 1916 uniforms--another one of my favorites. This logo encompassed the wide "C" with a walking bear (on all fours) inside. In 1929, after a few more uniform changes, the famous "C" was combined with the original bear logo to make one terrific home jersey. That same year was the first time they wore dark grey and a sleeve patch for their away uniforms. This was a great uniform year and I would be happy to see them both again--in jersey styles, that is. It 1940, the Cubs were the very first team in the league to introduce vest jerseys. They wore the vest over a cotton shirt in their traditional red and blue. These were designed by Mr. Philip K. Wrigley himself. The vest was originally flannel and I could do without that, but I would like to be a proud owner of one of those vest jerseys. All I am asking for is a little variety in Cubs jerseys. As the years passed the uniform surely did see its fair share of changes, but in 1982 a uniform was introduced that would remain constant to the present day with only slight variations. This jersey style is out there; you just have to be lucky enough to find it. Now, I do a lot of my authentic Cubs jerseys shopping at CubWorld.com and they have a great selection, but if only some of the old styles were introduced it would make me and so many others extremely happy. After-all, true Cubs fans show just how much they love the team by the Cubs apparel they wear.
